Welcome to our new Daily Snapshot series
“A picture tells a thousand stories” – oh yes, a huge cliche but is exactly that. Sometimes, the easiest way to express something is without words. So on that note, welcome to our latest series – a Daily Snapshot.
This series will give you a sneak peek into the lives of a Kiwi duo living abroad. Enjoy.
So.. What’s on your plate?
Upon arriving in the Philippines, the first thing that becomes blatantly obvious is the Filopino’s infatuation with food. It is a hot subject on each and every Filipino’s lips. If you want to win the hearts of 90 million Filipinos, it is guaranteed to be made through their stomachs.
This latest series is a gastronomy of Filopino foods served up; from fine dining, traditional and non Filipino, to the ‘wtf’ is that?!

Time to board the Love Boat in Cebu
Think the Love Boat, Filipino Style. Toe-tapping tacky 1960’s Americano music, staff adorned in sailor outfits in white and blue. The feel is upbeat, gay and bustling. A buffet style is on board and it’s time to get stuck in.
For only p200 ($5AUD), you can stuff yourself silly with a bountiful selection of over 40 dishes including shell soup; for the appetizers -baked oyster, baked tahong with butter, crispy kangkong, dilis with teriyaki sauce, crispy chicken skin, drunken shrimp, crablets, sweet potato fries, vegetable tempura; for the tasty salads – puso ng saging, nangka salad, pipino salad, ensaladang talong, atchara papaya, green mango, guso-seaweed, lukot-seaweed, potato salad; the main course – pork menudo, chicken pandan, sweet and sour meatballs, chorizo, sotanghon guisado/bam-i, pinakbet, adobong kangkong, sizzling bangus, lumpia shanghai, adobong pusit, sweet corn, pasta, sizzling squid, plain rice, garlic rice with butter; for desserts – buko pandan, puto cutchinta, pitche-pitche, palitaw, biko, and my ultimate favourite – ‘all you can eat’ ice cream flowing, all too effortlessly, from a dispenser.
Life is good. Cocktail anyone?!
